Bario is situated in the mountainous area in northeast Sarawak, near the Kalimantan border, an area famous for its salt springs. Lubang Garam Pa Umor is one of the best-known Bario salt springs. The spring water, containing brine from lubang Garam Pa Umor, is boiled for 24 hours before the salt is extracted. The salt is placed into bamboo shoots which are then roasted using thick wood until it is dry. The bamboo shoots are then opened and the bario salt removed. The bario salt is then wrapped using pine leaves.
Bamboo SaltTraditionally in Korea, bamboo was used as an important medicine material with many different medical efficacy which varies from its stub, roots and leaves. Bamboo salt is made from sun-dried common sea salt which is filled into a bamboo trunk and then burnt repeatedly 3, 6 or 9 times at 900¡ãC to 1500¡ãC to eliminate heavy metals and toxins. The whole process takes at least one month. Korean Bamboo Salt provides alkaline organic mineral salt and supplies 70 to 80 essential elements and minerals.
